The post on the right is typical of what is specified. It is a center drilled, hollow tube, completely open to the elements. You would see this detail on a residential cable rail system, but not on a bridge! This design is unimaginative and positions the strand too close to the edge. Also, instead of field welding, we bolt down our posts to our high strength embeds so they can be utilized for the temp cable during erection. This saves money and makes the project go more smoothly.
